What's New, Liverpool?

What's New, Liverpool?

(Post title to be sung to the tune of Tom Jones' What's New Pussycat, of course)

2017 was a busy year with more new restaurant and bar openings that I can possibly recall. I'd love to recount each and every of of them but I only started this blog in the Summer and, well, I haven't got the time to trace back beyond that. So what's happening this year? We're only 2 months in and already we have bars, cafes and restaurants popping up all over the place. Fantastic news for the Liverpool food scene but not so great for my bank account (sorry, Santander).

If you're wondering what's new this month and what we've got coming up this year then grab yourself a cuppa' and read on.

What began as two young lads trading at festivals with a portable wood fired oven quickly blew up in to well-known name and one of the post popular traders at the Baltic Market. After less than a year as residents in the Baltic they've managed to get themselves the keys to their own place on Smithdown Road. The lads are serving up proper, Neopolitan wood-fired pizzas and aim to bring a taste of Napoli to Liverpool.

Liverpool's newest cocktail bar has opened serving up drinks and dancing in a cosy, intimate setting. Their cocktail list has all the classics as well as some of their own unique offerings including a 'Cereal Thriller' Nutella creation served up in a miniature box of Coco Pops. Keep an eye on their socials- they've had a few 'free bar' hours over the last few weeks.

A new, independent restaurant has opened up on the beautiful Castle Street offering up a taste of home-cooking from a husband and wife duo. The menu includes a small but sweet collection of home-cooked classics like potted pork with apple chutney, poached pairs and Middle-Eastern flat-breads. They also have a separate bar area with wines, spirits and signature cocktails.

Wood Street has gone and got itself a cool, new Insta-friendly coffee spot serving up breakfast, brunches and lunch as well as some beers, wine and cocktails for later in the evening. Menu includes an incredible sounding breakfast muffin called the 'one hander' filled with sausage patties, herb aioli, brie and a fried egg as well as home made sodas.

Tiny Ricks

Tiny Ricks is Liverpool's new cereal cafe (akin to the infamous cereal killer cafe in London) where you can indulge your inner child and eat their sugar-filled creations any time of the day. Alongside the bowls they'll be serving non-alcoholic cereal inspired cocktails and have over 300 different board games you can play whilst you enjoy them.

Coming Soon...

Probably one of the biggest and most exciting openings this year will be the Dockside Dining Club which will launch this Spring at Mann Island overlooking our iconic Liverpool Waterfront. The space will have an indoor-market style layout with ten different food vendors and a bar. The perfect place for dinner after a touristy trip to the docks.

Hey you guys! I haven't got much information about this one but there's definitely rumours flying about that we'll be getting a Goonies themed bar in late 2018. That's right, a bar based on the eighties cult-classic. Their Facebook page is building the excitement claiming that you can  'Bring along your misfit friends in hopes of finding “One-Eyed Willy’s” Hidden Bar. Follow the treasure map upon arrival, join the adventure through the secret caves, escape the treacherous boobie traps and find the abandoned pirate ship where you will party the night away. '.

Huge US chain Taco Bell is expanding their UK chain and coming to Liverpool. Serving up burritos, nachos, quesedillas and of course, tacos they're bringing fast, Mexican food to Bold St with big plans to open up in other Liverpool locations throughout the year.

The team behind versatile Baltic venue Constellations are going to be opening a multi-purpose event space around the Cains Brewery Village area. With a bar, mezzanine and three changeable areas the venue will be available to hire for different local and national events with a focus on retaining their independent-minded ethos.

That's all for now, folks! If you know somewhere new that I need to know about or are a bar or restaurant opening your doors soon drop me a message and let me know!
