When it comes to French food the choice in Liverpool is small but decent. Cafe Rouge is (thankfully) gone. We still have the Bistros, all of which I know well and who will always hold a special place in my heart. Then there's Caveau in Woolton which I've never tried but heard good things about, and of course we have Bread and Butter whose simple, home-cooked plates really impressed me last year.
Liverpool Gin Distillery
The eagerly anticipated Liverpool Gin Distillery opened on Castle Street last month and with Christmas just around the corner I had the perfect excuse to buy some tickets for a snoop around.

The January Sales (Edible Edition)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: January is no time to start going cold turkey on everything you enjoy. I can't think of anything worse than having to go back to work after all the festivities with a vow of a New Year diet, a booze-free month or a spending ban looming over me. January is an excellent time for eating since everywhere is quiet and there are bucket load of special offers on.
