Heavenly Desserts

Brunch at Liverpool's Newest Dessert Bar

I'm one of those people that always says I don't have a sweet tooth as I'm mindlessly chomping my way through box upon box of malteasers and claiming I'd 'much rather have a starter'.
In reality, I am compelled to consume a sweet treat after almost every meal (breakfast included) and I almost never say no to a dessert menu. With that in mind, along with the fact that I have completely vetoed the January diet this year, I went down to road-test some of the celestial offerings at Heavenly Desserts

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it!

Located on Strand Street and, rather ironically, underneath the gym on the corner, Heavenly Desserts offers up a sweets menu the size of a phone book boasting page upon page of hand-made, artisan desserts including crepes, waffles, cheesecake, cakes and sundaes...to name a few. If you're not satisfied with any of the options on offer you can even create your own confectionery concoction choosing your own sauces, toppings and sides.

If you've heard the words 'dessert bar' and started picturing a gaudy, neon kid's haven a la Pizza Hut's infamous 'Ice Cream Factory' then you're way off. Heavenly Desserts have managed to add a touch of class to proceedings with a cool, cocoa coloured interior, soft leather couches and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the majestic sights of Liverpool's lovely Albert Dock.

This is a dessert bar for grown-ups.

We ordered to share (naturally) starting with a triple layer Red Velvet Cheesecake with Strawberries and Cream Gelato. It was everything a good cheesecake should be- smooth, silky soft and creamy with a fresh strawberry tang from the gelato.

Next up, a piping hot bowl of molten Cookie Dough doused in melted chocolate and studded with white chocolate chips and fresh, tangy raspberries. I'm sure I don't need to explain how good this one was to you. A bowl of cooling vanilla gelato on the side along with a massive dollop of whipped cream ensured it wasn't overly sweet and we managed to polish off the lot. Like I said- tough gig.

I'll be honest, before coming here I'd never visited a dessert bar before, perhaps because I'd seen no real occasion when I would need to go. Now that I've been to Heavenly Desserts I can think of loads of reasons to go back:

- A break from shopping
- An amazing lunch hour
- A late-night pick me up
- When your favourite restaurant does rubbish desserts (happens a lot, unfortunately)
- When you want an absolutely winning breakfast
- Cheat day (every day for me)

Whatever your excuse- if you're going to indulge your sweet tooth then this is the place!
